Welcome Message from the PSHA President
2026–2027 Board Term
Message from the President
Dear Members,
As we begin a new fiscal year for our association, I want to thank each of you for your dedication to our profession and to the individuals and families we serve. Our collective expertise, advocacy, and commitment continue to strengthen the impact of speech-language pathology and audiology across our state.
This year, our association will focus on three key priorities that are essential to the future of our profession.
1. Medicaid Reform
Access to high-quality services depends on a Medicaid system that supports both providers and the patients we serve. We will continue to work with stakeholders to address reimbursement challenges, reduce administrative burdens, and promote policies that improve access to speech-language and audiology services. Our goal is to ensure that individuals who depend on these services receive timely, effective care while supporting the sustainability of professional practice.
2. School Caseload Reform
School-based professionals face increasing demands that can impact service delivery and student outcomes. We remain committed to advancing solutions that support manageable caseloads, appropriate workloads, and evidence-based service models. By advocating for meaningful reform, we can help ensure that students receive the attention and support they need while creating healthier and more sustainable work environments for practitioners.
3. Growing and Supporting Student Membership
The future of our profession depends on the next generation of speech-language pathologists and audiologists. We are committed to expanding opportunities for students to connect, learn, and become active participants in our professional community. Through mentorship, leadership development, networking opportunities, and student-focused programming, we will work to increase student membership and engagement across the state. We encourage every member to help welcome and support students as they begin their professional journey.
Together, these priorities reflect our commitment to advocacy, professional excellence, and the long-term strength of our field. Meaningful progress will require the engagement and expertise of our members, and I encourage each of you to find a way to become involved in our work this year.
Whether you volunteer for a committee, participate in advocacy initiatives, mentor a student or early-career professional, contribute to educational programming, or share your expertise with colleagues, your involvement makes a difference.
Our association's success depends on the collective efforts of dedicated professionals who are willing to invest in the future of our profession.
I also encourage you to reach out to students and invite them to become active members of our association. By welcoming emerging professionals into our community, we strengthen our profession, expand our leadership pipeline, and ensure that future generations have the support they need to thrive.
Together, we can advance meaningful Medicaid reform, improve school caseload practices, support the development of future professionals, and continue to elevate the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology throughout our state.
Thank you for your commitment, your expertise, and your willingness to serve. I look forward to working alongside you in the year ahead.
Sincerely,
Erin M Buckwalter, MBS, MS, CCC-SLP
